Game drives at Baobab Ridge are in open vehicles with qualified senior guides. Our guides are passionate about wildlife and are in contact with other vehicles on game drives, greatly increasing your chances of finding the wildlife that you want to see.
Our vehicles may also leave the road to follow animals into the bush and thus provide opportunities to witness behaviour and interactions you might not otherwise see. We are in a Big Five area, so we do see lion, leopard, wild dog, elephant, buffalo and many more in our area!
Your guide will share expert knowledge and information about each species and their behaviour. The birding is quite spectacular, especially during spring and summer when the migrants breed.
Night drives offer exceptionally good opportunities to spot game not usually seen during the day. Our afternoon game drives end in the dark, giving our guests the opportunity to experience a night drive as well! Don’t miss the chance to spot lion and other nocturnal species who are at their most energetic at night.
See how the guides find the smallest of creatures from chameleons to the elusive leopard. A spotlight on our open safari vehicle ensures great views and animal encounters in the dark. On our afternoon drive, you will make a stop for sundowners, to watch the sunset before heading out again.
Game drives after dark or at dawn are often a real highlight, you can see endless stars and you’re also likely to encounter a whole range of nocturnal species from leopard, porcupine and hyena to a range of owl species.
Walking in the bush gives you the opportunity to experience Africa from the ground, in the safe hands of our professional guide. The small details that are overlooked on game drives become more apparent from the slower pace of being on foot. For instance, you can learn about the amazing engineering skills involved in the creation of a termite mound!
Your morning game drive will include a rest stop in a suitable viewing spot for morning coffee - usually served with rusks and the like (you can even request some Amarula to be added to the hot box before you leave!) This gives you a chance to get down from the vehicle and stretch your legs!
Your afternoon game drive not only includes spectacular wildlife sightings, but also a sundowner stop in the middle of the African bush.
At Baobab Ridge we pride ourselves on creating wonderful, home-cooked meals that are made with fabulous, fresh and locally sourced ingredients.
Our talented chefs love to incorporate firm South African favourites and a range of traditional flavours into our menu, so you can expect a selection of marvellous comfort-style food that's mouthwateringly tantalising and deliciously tasty for the duration of your stay.
Start the day with muffins and rusks with coffee before departing on your morning game drive, returning in time for a hearty brunch out on the deck (weather permitting) or inside in our beautiful dining room.
High tea is served shortly before departure for the afternoon/evening game drive, and, of course, you'll be stopping to indulge in a sundowner or two and some wonderful, savoury snacks en-route.
You'll return to the lodge to enjoy a hearty, three-course al fresco dinner next to a roaring log fire outside in our boma beneath a canopy of twinkling stars, accompanied by the sounds of the African night.
Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements or preferences and we will be sure to incorporate these into our menu while you are with us. We are happy to cater for vegetarian and vegan guests, as well as those with food intolerances.
We accompany our meals with fresh fruit juices, our own bottled, filtered water and a selection of marvellous South African wines, as well as a wide range of spirits and soft drinks/mixers.
Children from 6 years old are welcome. When the lodge is booked exclusively, children of all ages are welcome.
Guests are responsible for the safety of their own children whilst at the lodge, please do not let them run around unaccompanied around the pool, the upstairs area and in general around the outside areas lodge at night. (The fence does keep most large animals out, it is however possible for snakes, scorpions and leopard to get in!)
