Overview

King Suites

The expansive King Suite boasts a walk in closet as well as en-suite bathroom, with both a shower and a perfectly positioned ‘tub with a view’. This suite option also has a wooden deck offering a hammock, perfect for those lazy afternoons.

Bushman King Suite

The bow and quiver of arrows will leave you in no doubt as to the theme of this room, from the earth colours of the bed cover to the printed bedding. Superior King Suite with bath and shower en-suite.

Ndebele King Suite

Decorated with a contemporary African theme, in bold yet vibrant earthly colours, our Ndebele Suite offers warmth, solitude and elegance. Overlooking the dry riverbed our Honeymoon King Suite with bath and shower.

Zulu King Suite

Decorated in the theme of the Zulu, our villa offers spaciousness, elegance, unparalleled intimacy, and seclusion. Overlooking the camp waterhole, the game viewing holds spectacular potential, also offering a large bathroom en-suite.

Impi Suite

The spacious Impi Suite features a sitting area and an en-suite bathroom with a shower. The wooden deck offers stunning views of the bushveld.

Deluxe Impi Suite

Decorated with a contemporary African theme, in bold yet vibrant earthy colours, our luxury suites offer warmth, solitude and elegance. Overlooking the dry riverbed our Deluxe Double Suites come with an en-suite shower.

Game Drives

Conducted twice daily or as you prefer open land rovers with armed Ranger and a Shangaan tracker in search of the elusive “Big 5” as well as the other small and large wonders of this magnificent stretch of Southern Africa, normally conducted early morning and late afternoon.

Photographic Bunker Overlooking a Water Hole

Looking for a different photographic perspective? Makumu's ground-level photographic bunker offers the opportunity to be at eye level with the water to take spectacular shots of wildlife visiting the watering hole. Nicknamed iThumbela, loosely translated meaning “place to hide” in the Shangaan language, this is the perfect vantage point for the perfect shot!

The Upper Lounge

It Has a fireplace and viewing deck. Games are available for family and children. Guests have access to complimentary Wi-Fi in rooms and lounge areas.

The Pool

The pool was built as a feature to blend in with the surrounding bushveld, it is perfect for the warm lazy days of summer to cool off and watch various wildlife at the watering hole with a similar idea.

Boma

Our unique floating boma is an iconic Makumu fingerprint, and is the realisation of one of many of Stefan Breuer’s dreams. Set high above the leopard river and the plains beyond, it is a stunning location for candlelit dinners, stargazing and warm campfire story-swapping.

Electricity

The lodge has minimal electricity as it is powered by candlelight at night. International plug points are available in all suites. All rooms have fans.

The Klaserie Private Nature Reserve (KPNR) is one of the largest privately owned 'Big 5' nature reserves in South Africa covering some 60 000 hectares and is part of the greater Kruger National Park. It is an entirely non-government organization involved in the full spectrum of Nature Conservation.

Home to the Big 5, amongst many other unique and beautiful wildlife. Game viewing at Makumu is opportunistic, with no time constraints nor schedules — the ultimate benefit of exclusivity. 

Game viewing opportunities abound. From the early morning birdlife as the sun peeks over the horizon, to our resident warthog family that frequents the lodge lawns during the day as well as the elephant herds that choose to quench their thirst in our swimming pool, there is always the possibility of a sighting.

Pearl-spotted Owl, Giraffe, Hyena, Wild Dog, Zebra, Warthog, Elephant, Vervet Monkey and Leopard are among the frequent visitors — not forgetting a variety of antelope: Kudu, Impala, Waterbuck and Nyala.

Please do NOT follow GPS coordinates to the lodge. For guests self-driving, please leave your car at Klaserie Private Nature Reserve Headquarters. All guests will be collected from this point.
