Tintswalo Lapalala is a family-friendly camp, offering seven luxury tented suites with private plunge pools, including two 2-bedroom family suites, all with views overlooking the rolling mountains and plains of the malaria-free Waterberg region. Accommodating up to 16 adults and 4 children.

The Tintswalo Lapalala lodge is a tented, eco-friendly camp which is completely off the grid, and solely run by solar power. Travelers can enjoy all themodern comforts of a luxury lodge whilst still experiencing the true beauty of the bush.

Activities on offer at Tintswalo Lapalala:

  • Game drives – Open 4x4 safari vehicles are equipped with radios for communication, ponchos for wet weather and individual blankets for the early morning and evening chill, and spot lights for night game viewing
  • Our experienced guides are “Field Guide Association” accredited and they offer interpretive and educational game drives through the reserve and offer stories of the local culture and traditions
  • Fishing on the 37km untouched Palala River • Guests can enjoy picnics along the riverbed and can spend a day in nature. Weather dependent.
  • Hikes to the iron age sites to view ancient historical artifacts • Visit the well preserved bushman rock paintings • Bushwalks – Interactive bush walks, insight into our wildlife, fauna, flora and bird life
  • Private birding or photographic safaris are also available on request
  • Excursions to the Lapalala Wilderness School can be arranged, where guests may interact with the children and teachers in their quest for conservation of the African bush veld
  • Barge river cruise along the river for up to 8 guests (extra charge)
  • Sleep out deck at the lodge (extra charge)
  • Look out deck in the reserve where you can sleep-out and have dinner, with shower and toilet facilities (extra charge)

The Lapalala Wilderness Reserve was founded in 1981 by conservation leaders, Dale Parker and Clive Walker, just 3.5 hours’ drive from Johannesburg. The Tintswalo at Lapalala Wilderness establishment continues this legacy of nature preservation by remaining environmentally conscious and completely off the grid.

At just under 50 000 hectares the Lapalala Wilderness Reserve is home to a plethora of wild game and forms part of the UNESCO-declared Waterberg Biosphere Reserve, and is sure to delight guests with engaging wildlife sightings in one of Africa’s most diverse ecological settings. The Reserve is also known for its research and breeding programs of rare and endangered species as well as the environmental education program it delivers to school communities from around South Africa.

Child Policy:

Children of all ages welcome. Children under 16 yrs must share with an adult 16 yrs or older. Families with children under the age of 6 must book a private safari vehicle. Children between 6 and 15 yrs are charged 50% of sharing rate. No charge for children 5 yrs and younger. No extra beds
